The ever evolving Dubai is all set to advance it technological prowess further by instigating the world’s tallest solar tower. Find out all about this exclusive solar technological development.
World Tallest Solar Tower
Dubai aims to meet 75% of its energy requirement from clean energy sources by 2050. Sustainable development is the main objective and to create major impact in others lives such as embracing stable electricity tariff rates. Clean renewable energy will be offered at the lowest Levelised Cost of Electricity (LCOE) which will be just 7.3 US cents per kilowatt hour (kW/h). The world’s largest single site solar park will feature the tallest solar tower and will be located near to Al Qudra. The landmark will produce 1000 Mega Watts (MW) of clean energy by 2020 and 5000 MW by 2030. The solar tower will be 260 meters with the world’s largest thermal storage capacity. The size of the square will be 43 sqkm, which be like 8000 football field combined. Around 270,000 homes will be powered by the new development. The development will annually reduce around an estimated 1.4 tones of power generated carbon emissions. The energy produced from the tower will be at lowest cost of electricity in the world. The solar tower will also offer 464 MW of clean electricity to the EXPO 2020 site and this will be the first one of kind Expo in the world to solely use power from clean energy. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan inaugurated 200MW phase which will offer 50,000 homes clean energy also save 214,000 tones in carbon emissions. The second phase features 2.3 million solar panels. Dubai is developing world’s finest standard technological developments and setting the best aspirations for the future. Dubai is steadily moving towards the Dubai Clean Energy strategy 2050 which will comprise of five pillars that will feature infrastructure, building capacities legislation, funding, and environment friendly energy mix. One of the infrastructures will have a 3d printed innovation centre, it will also have a free zone named Dubai Green Zone for research and development. The second infrastructure pillar will be establishment of legislative with two divisions implementing polices and strategies to install solar panels on the roof of all buildings in Dubai by 2030. The third pillar is a financial regulatory which will manage all financial solutions and Dubai Green Fund to incorporate financial resources for investors interested in clean energy. The fourth pillar will have human resource establishment, international research and development centers also will offer training in the field of clean energy and institute such as International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) will be present. The fifth pillar will feature energy mix providing 25% solar energy at initial stage, 7% of nuclear and clean coal energy. The mix will offer 75% clean energy by 2020, this pillar also manages energy utilization via waste by transforming 80% of emirates waste to energy by 2030 by incorporating state of art technologies. Dubai is transforming itself into a land of sustainability with multitudes technological developments.
